The stage is set for the 2025 TCS London Marathon to deliver one of the most competitive and star-studded races in the event’s storied history. Scheduled for April 27 and streaming live on FloTrack, this year’s marathon will feature an extraordinary assembly of Olympic and Paralympic champions, world record holders, and some of the fastest marathon runners in history.

TCS London Marathon CEO Hugh Brasher has hailed this year’s lineup as the greatest elite field the race has ever seen. "This is quite simply the greatest elite field in the history of the London Marathon," Brasher stated, reflecting the remarkable caliber of athletes confirmed for the event.

Women’s Elite Field: A Battle of Champions

The women’s race is poised to be a thrilling contest with a blend of reigning champions and record-breaking runners. Leading the pack is Olympic gold medalist Sifan Hassan, who made a stunning marathon debut in 2023 and is now set to challenge the world’s best once again. She will face off against current world record holder Ruth Chepngetich, who holds an astonishing personal best of 2:09:56.

Adding to the excitement is Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa, the second-fastest woman in history after clocking 2:11:53 at the 2023 Berlin Marathon. Past London Marathon champion Joyciline Jepkosgei (2021 winner) and Alemu Megertu, the 2024 Valencia Marathon winner, further deepen the elite women’s field. In total, six women in this year’s race have personal bests under 2:17, highlighting the depth of talent.

Notably, top American contender Susanna Sullivan, who was the fastest American at the 2024 Chicago Marathon, will join the race, aiming to compete against this formidable field.

Men’s Elite Field: Record Holders and Rising Stars Collide

The men’s race promises to be equally electrifying. Leading the charge is Olympic marathon champion Tamirat Tola, who will be joined by Alexander Mutiso, the 2024 London Marathon winner. Making headlines is the marathon debut of Jacob Kiplimo, a world cross-country champion and Olympic bronze medalist in the 10,000m, bringing his track and cross-country dominance to the roads.

Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe, who shocked the running world with a 2:02:05 win at the 2024 Valencia Marathon—the fastest marathon debut in history—will be a major contender. The field also features Milkesa Mengesha, the 2024 Berlin Marathon champion, and Abdi Nageeye, the reigning New York City Marathon winner. Additionally, Kenya’s Timothy Kiplagat boasts a 2:02:55 personal best, solidifying the race as a showdown between seasoned champions and rising stars.

American eyes will be on Kelvin Salvano, who enters the race with a personal best of 2:11:26, representing the U.S. in this highly competitive field.

Wheelchair Division: Legends Return for Glory

The wheelchair races will also feature world-class athletes. Switzerland’s Marcel Hug, a dominant force in men’s wheelchair racing, will headline the men’s division alongside strong contenders like Daniel Romanchuk (USA) and David Weir (GBR).

On the women’s side, defending champion Catherine Debrunner (SUI) returns to face elite competitors such as Madison de Rozario (AUS), Manuela Schär (SUI), and Susannah Scaroni (USA), ensuring another fiercely contested race.

A Marathon for the Ages

With Olympic champions, world record holders, and marathon legends all converging in London, the 2025 TCS London Marathon is set to be an unforgettable event. Fans worldwide eagerly await to see if records will fall and who will emerge victorious in one of the most stacked marathon fields ever assembled.

As the countdown to race day begins, one question remains: Who will rise above this historic field and claim victory in London?
